Small House Big World

In March of 2015, I left Chicago and hit the road full-time in a 1993 Pace Arrow RV with my boyfriend Kelly. In February of 2016, Kelly and I decided to amicably part ways, but I didn’t want to give up the RV lifestyle I’d come to love, so I decided to GO ROGUE and go solo! This site is meant to be a journal of my adventures as a full time traveler.  For more about me, check here

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Paying the San Francisco Price November 30, 2015 Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware that the Bay Area is not famous for its reasonable cost of living. Food is expensive, homes are expensive, and yes, you guessed it, RV accommodations are expensive too. This means you can easily find a way to pay someone over $100 per night to allow you ... • Wine Country! November 19, 2015 We got a recommendation from a Sacramento local that although Napa Valley is a lovely part of the country (and I agree, I was there a couple years ago), a slightly more down-to-earth and off-the-radar spot is Lodi, California. I had not previously heard of Lodi, but it is conveniently located between Sacramento and Stockton, about ... Read More...
  • Redwoods and Beaches! Northern California November 5, 2015 One thing we’ve learned so far about living a more nomadic lifestyle:  It is tricky to have to plan around being somewhere at a specific time.  In “normal” life, having a flight to catch can be a stressful event – you worry about running late, you have to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything, etc. In RV ... • Crater Lake and on to California October 27, 2015 This past weekend we left Portland and traveled down to Eugene, Oregon.  We stayed in the Valley River Mall parking lot in Eugene. Sounds romantic, right….? No, it was not our own private mountaintop, but it was actually a very nice boondocking spot for a couple of days. Eugene seems to be completely engulfed in beautiful ... • Portlandia! October 21, 2015 First of all, time to brag. A school bus driver complimented me on my driving of the RV. And it sounded like a really genuine compliment too. Yep, that’s right folks. A person who drives large vehicles for a living thinks I do a good job of driving a large vehicle. It was a big moment ... Read More...
  • Chicago and The Oregon Coast October 5, 2015 I know that many of you like reading the blog for the sometimes amusing tales of woe that come from living in a 1993 RV held together all too frequently by duct tape. So I will tell you with some hesitancy, and quietly so as not to upset the RV gods, everything has mostly been working lately. Either ... Read More...
  • Fun With Acronyms: DIY RV LEDs September 24, 2015 For the layperson: That’s Do It Yourself Recreational Vehicle Light Emitting Diodes. Sounds like a party am I right?? Well, it was much like a party, by the time we were done. And as is the case with most of our home renovations, by “we” I mean Kelly (thanks Kelly).  Kelly and I decided that we wanted ... Read More...
  • Seattle: The Rain is a Lie September 16, 2015 Seattle is a city I’ve always wanted to live in. It is a big, beautiful, bustling city surrounded by a quietly magnificent wilderness. You get the best of both worlds. People who live here always try to dissuade you from loving it because it’s rainy. The secret is, they just don’t want any more people packing into this ... • Stuck Between a Rock and a Taco Bell September 13, 2015 It’s been a while since I have written an update! I am going to be better about writing more, I promise… Since our last post, we left Glacier National Park and travelled through Idaho and on to Washington, where we currently are residing. Unfortunately the trip out here was not without its complications, which I ... Read More...
  • Excuse Me Sir There’s a Fly in My…. Toilet August 28, 2015 I almost don’t want to write about this because 1. It is pretty gross and 2. No one else should have to relive what happened. But here we are anyway. One word: Flies. Let’s change it to two words just to start you off with a little more detail: Shit Flies.   Let me go back to the ... Read More...

    Hi Anna & Kelly,
LOVED reading your blog! I went to lunch with Kelly’s mom Rachel today and she told me about your blog. I am your Second Cousin Once Removed.. My dad, Jay Saks, and your Grandfather Jackie were first cousins. Your mom and I are second cousins.I have a son your same age Jared, and a daughter Jaime who is 28. They are your third cousins! If you make it to South Florida, I would love to get together! Enjoy every minute of your journey! It is something I never had the opportunity to do, however, I plan to do it in the next few years!!!

    Hi Anna,
I was shooting new videos with the RV Geeks last week and they had to share your Instagram photos with me and your adventures. I just wanted to introduce myself. I am Tyler with Tough Top Awning. Good for you and welcome to the RV lifestyle.
If you ever make it back to the West Coast we would be happy to replace your Patio awning fabric and maybe have the RV Geeks shoot a video on it. We also, don’t charge anything when we shoot videos as it take 10 time as long to do it.
    Safe Travels
