About Anna & Kelly

Damn it Kelly, can’t you take a normal picture for once?

When Kelly and I first met, we discovered we both had latent desires to make an escape from our normal lives. I wanted to go backpacking and camping with my dog, Max, for an extended period of time. Kelly had thoughts of world travel – heading wherever the wind took him. We happened upon the idea of getting an RV and travelling the country after a period of brainstorming, and while it wasn’t what either of us had originally dreamed of, it seemed to fit the bill.

As we continued to think it over, we were amazed by how excited we both found ourselves about the idea. At first it was just a crazy thought, but slowly we realized that we could turn it into a practical reality. Travelling, getting outside of the normal routine, increasing self-sufficiency, having the opportunity to optimize our use of space, embracing the need to get rid of the majority of our possessions, and living in the moment – all of these things were exactly what we were looking for.

Of course, there have been some complications. Neither of us have spent any time in an RV. Kelly didn’t even have a driver’s license when I met him. And while we are having no trouble supporting ourselves, we didn’t and still don’t have what I would call an “excess of money” to put towards an endeavor like this.

As the co-founder and CEO of an online gaming and digital media website, Kelly has a lot of flexibility in his job. But my job has been a 9 -5, in a fixed location, at an office in downtown Chicago. So – we had a lot of things to think about, a lot of things to learn, and a lot of planning to do.

This website is meant to chronicle our experiences, from the beginning onward. We also hope it will serve as a guide for like-minded others who want to pursue a similar path, so they can build on our research instead of starting from scratch.  We’re building this site as a passion project and we’re giving all of our content and research away for free, to everyone.  If you would like to return the favor, there are a few ways you can help us out.

Hi Kelly… I just finished your story ( amazing but full of synchronizity ) after reading Anna’s. I envy both of you. My husband and I will become fulltimers this spring too, after many years as rv’ers. The difference is our ages. I read more and more about the ” mobile ” society that has emerged lately, thanks in part to technology. Your job didn’t really exist when we were young. I too follow other blogs and will perhaps start one of our own eventually. They are always chock full of useful information.

Kathy, this job didn’t exist even 5-10 years ago. When I was a senior in college (2006) I had the most advanced mobile device available and it barely had a working web browser and ‘net connection. Simply put, this lifestyle hasn’t really been viable until just recently, with the deployment of 4G internet in the more remote parts of the country.
