When you live in an RV, you have to be very careful about what you do and do not own. I make every effort to keep only the essentials on hand to save space. The items below are some that I find I use constantly and have made a big difference in my day-to-day life. Some of them I set off with, knowing I would need them. Others I discovered a need for along the way.
Trying to live more simply has brought about a big change in the way I purchase things. Rather than spend a little money on many things here and there, I try to focus on not buying things until I absolutely need them, and then buying the best. It makes the experience of getting a new item even more rewarding when you have been holding off and looking for just the right thing to buy.
Here are my favorite items!
1. Bodum Insulated Stainless-Steel Travel French Press Coffee and Tea Mug.
This mug lets you make a single serving of french-press coffee in the morning, and keeps the liquid hot UNTIL THE END OF TIME. As someone who likes a nice hot drink, this is huge.
2. Oxygenics BodySpa Shower Head
This gives you a high-pressure shower and uses 20% less water than a regular shower head. Crucial for getting the most out of your RV shower.
3. Hamilton Beach Panini Press
This is not the fanciest panini press on the market, but it is a steal of a deal and and it gets the job done. I use this to make grilled burritos pretty much constantly.
4. 15″ Cube Folding Storage Ottoman
1 word: Shoes. This is where my most-worm shoes live, and I keep it conveniently by the door (which is by the couch as well, because RV.)
5. Bungee Cord Assortment Pack
I can pretty much guarantee you will have a use for these. I use it for keeping the bathroom door secured open whilst driving. Yours will be different but equally important, I’m sure.
6. KitchenAid Classic Silicone Scraper Spatula
This might seem like a little thing, but I didn’t have a good spatula when I set off and buying a quality one has made a big difference. Why? Because you can scrape every last drop of sauce out of your pan – more food for you and less food for the gray tank.
7. Salomon Women’s X Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoe
Everyone’s feet are different so shoe recommendations are tough – but these are the best hiking boots I’ve ever owned. They look and feel like tennis shoes but they are incredibly tough and durable. I am having a love affair with them.
8. Nalgene Water Bottle
It’s nice to be able to carry around an extra quart of water with you wherever you go. Keeps you hydrated and also keeps you from spending money on drinks at the gas station. They are essentially unbreakable and they, you know, hold water very nicely and stuff.
9. 3M Dual Lock Reclosable Fastener
This is another multi-purpose tool and god only knows all the uses you will find for it. I use it to keep broken drawers shut so they don’t fly open during transit. I also use it to secure power strips to the wall to create additional outlets. And I’ve even used it to hang pictures. It does anything. Basically, if you have something and you want it stuck to the wall, this is your product. A word of caution: I don’t know how well it would UN-stick from the wall, so make your choices wisely.
